Exactly! That's the issue, I guess: I was writing from a SOCIOlinguistic perspective, the critical reader was reading from a FORMAL linguistic perspective. Maybe the solution is providing a reference - so, thanks for pointing this one out! 🙏

The punch card or the refusing to do stuff thing? Saying no to *literally* everything is not what I want in the long run (and would make me a very isolated academic) but yeah, thinking about what I say yes to more carefully is definitely here to stay. 😀
