I spent that whole book making this face: 😳 Inhad NO IDEA.

I’ll add that to my mountain of a TBR. My child drug me out of the library today while informing me I did NOT have time for more library books! 😂

We’ve also discovered our local branch has been self censoring. A book my kid checked out one month suddenly disappeared off the shelf when they went to get it again… it’s still in the catalog but nobody knows where it is. It’s a mystery how a book titled QUEER is missing after being returned…

Which is to say, FUND LIBRARIES! But I fear even if they did fund ours it would t help much. Every building is falling apart. Our main brand is permanently closed and being bulldozed soon. And the admin really doesn’t believe in digital services. Any digital services. Research, ebooks, nada.

I literally pay $27 a year for this service. Our local library is HORRIBLY under funded and has zero of my 14 current holds in their digital collection, so I pay for a non resident card from a different library system. Worth every penny. If our library has it I prioritize their service but it’s rare

Three more library holds have come available since then, but because they’re digital I can delay delivery a few weeks. I either have no holds available for months or I get them all in two days. No in between!

Also, I have two book club books I need to read. This is not those. 😂 One I need to get a couple of chapters read by tomorrow. The other is the new Sharon McMahon book that I started literally 4 minutes before this library hold arrived with a quick deadline.

ADA LOVELACE’s GREAT GRANDFATHER was a castaway in this book. We’re also reading Frankenstein together right now so yet ANOTHER connection to Lovelace!

I kinda hope they all get court martialed. Except Byron. Yes. That Byron’s grandfather. You KNOW I was sending that to my kids too. That dude is everywhere right now.

And yes I’m over here highlighting and making screen caps of sections to text to my kids. Everything from “look how they used pyrite to make fire!” to “but the irony is that they had orders to ‘save’ indigenous tribes but the indigenous people saved them, then left them to starve for being savages!
