There are excellent reasons why the US Constitution specifies no state religions. Religious persecution slaughtered many people in Europe during the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Washington, Madison, Jefferson, Adams, Jay, Franklin—many founding fathers were secular humanists.
I am a liberal Christian, and I agree that religion should be strictly kept out of government. I don’t want my government messing in my religion, and vice versa.
