if we get clear of this election one of the longer tails of trumpism conquering the republican party is that it's probably going to take GOP primary voters a long time to stop voting for the biggest freak they can find, no matter how many winnable races they throw away by doing so

Also, if we get clear of this election, we can never assume Trump will just go away and Republicans will magically come to their senses. He won't and they won't. The Republican party is demonstrably beyond the point of no return.
