I moved to VSCode/platformio but for 8 bit level (avr). Will probably use it for 32 bit later. What do you feel is lacking? The new Arduino IDE is based on Intellij (iirc) which is better than VSCode for static languages beyond C, imho, but for C I don't feel I'm lacking anything with it.

Mostly the top bar controls are what I end up missing in VSCode. The easy selection of which board to upload to, the easy build/deploy options.
