To keep warming below 2 degrees -- and definitely 1.5 -- we're going to have to hit negative emissions in the middle of this century. Generation and industrial emissions just aren't falling fast enough and no amount of soup thrown at paintings is going to change that.

Aside from the fact that CCS is fake, it’s not even negative emissions technology. It’s for abating carbon from burning fossil gas. If BECCs were real, you could say that was negative emissions, but regular CCS doesn’t even pretend to be.

Successive UK governments have wanted to do CCUS -- I'm not persuaded this is some Blairite conspiracy. And I suspect with just £20bn over 25 years I don't much fancy its chance of success. But just isn't something wealthy fossil-fuel dependent economies can afford to ignore.
