I appreciate what BookingDOTcom did at the start (standardising room descriptions and cancellation rights etc) but they have become very greedy. Their commission seems to average 15%, and can even reach 25%. I'm steadily moving away from them.

I booked through them last year and it was the last time: not only are their commissions outrageous (same for airbnb) but also very questionable practices when it comes to paying the properties since they handle every aspect of the booking. Also usually cheaper if you call direct 😜
