Most of the information Dorothy ever gets about the witch is from interacting directly with her. In the MGM film, Glinda and Oz tell her absolutely nothing. Oz just tells her to bring him the broomstick.

And in the original books, it's actually the Flying Monkeys that explain how the Witch used them to conquer the west.
