Here's the dirty little secret: cis people don't actually fear social transition. After all, people have been "eccentric" for ages. The TERFy wizard lady said it outright: change your name, use different pronouns, dress how you like, they don't care. But they FREAK OUT when you change your body.
Because for them, that's when you're playing for keepsies, no takebacks, and they have to start taking you seriously. I had someone literally say to me, "Oh, so this is real, then." To be clear, that's stupid. Social transition IS valid... but they see it as something you can walk back. 🤦♀️
It's true. In person I'm a very nonthreatening tran to cis people (and it's easy to simply not clock me!) but WOW BOY when I got my uterus out there were suddenly Opinions
