Newsom vetoed a bill (SB299) that would have expanded automatic voter registration in California (by making it 'back-end'). His veto cites budget, also says it'd have gone too far in overriding people's "personal prerogative" (a common GOP talking point against AVR in general).
I don't really get why people need a personal prerogative to not be registered to vote. Everyone should be able to vote. Whether you actually do or not is your prerogative
He really is missing all the memos that say progressive policies are the most popular amongst the people. He's stuck in some kind of time warp. But that's fine. I don't want to see him in higher office.
