Here in Florida we have our own Willow! The Florida Willow (Salix floridana) is a deciduous shrub that is considered endangered. It loves swampy areas and close-canopied forests. It makes large, yellow flowers called catkins which have nectar that is beloved by our local bees!

Willow is a well known medicinal plant with documented use going back to Ancient times. The bark of the white Willow tree specifically is known to reduce fever and inflammation, providing pain relief with its high content of the aspirin component salicin and various flavonoids.

With strong ties to the Moon and Water, the Willow has been used in magical workings related to processing emotions since recorded history. Associated with death, grief, and rebirth, the protective nature of the tree makes them powerful spots for rituals, or to ride out a storm!
