We'd appreciate it if you shared the survey with people who work on seagrass beds, coral reefs, kelp forests, coastal wetlands (eg. salt marsh and mangrove forests), beaches and dunes, and oyster beds. We also welcome input on other habitats, including estuaries more broadly (i.e. anadromous fish ).
We're calling it "Beyond30" and the idea is that 30x30 should focus less on area targets and more on quality, equity, and access issues. We're asking folks to take a short survey to help us identify policies and communities to be included in a post-election report on what the next president can do.
Anyway, I don't hold a grudge Was just taken aback for half a second with how familiar it felt
and you can bet every single professional person of color you know has a story like that
I took a pause, then tried to get back into it during conference season, then when he endorsed Trump deleted my account
Anyway, every coast line needs a hero and we need to build up communities in Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa to participate in ocean conservation because the Pacific territories alone are home to 30% of US ocean areas youtu.be/sacEVXWrPBQ?...
Exploration and Innovation to Sustain Ocean Biodiversity: We cannot manage our relationships with nature without knowing what we have and how it is changing. Panelists will discuss approaches to developing ocean spaces sustainably and equitably and protecting the critical living resources that people rely on, focusing on innovation in areas ranging from technologies, exploration, and ways of sharing knowledge to policy and decision-making. These are comments I made on January 23, 2024 at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History during the Summit on Ocean Biodiversity, available here: https://www.youtube.com/live/Q88Q-rUTMDI?si=sZLunzv1m_8dHVQ_
But maybe we are in a watershed moment? WESPAC stabbed the territories in the back to get their quota and the conservation NGOs are learning they need to invest in people And the monuments are finally coming online So maybe the dynamic flips? www.angelovillagomez.com/2024/07/deco...

The people who work on monuments (me and my friends) have been unable to support the community in the same way WESPAC has I personally think WESPAC did this to serve their own ends -- but it worked www.angelovillagomez.com/2022/01/happ...

The way WESPAC operated in the territories for decades is brilliant They invested in the community and in leaders, and most people in positions of power see WESPAC as trusted advisors The Conservation NGOs HAVE. NOT. INVESTED. EQUALLY.
I've criticized WESPAC for going on two decades Here I am in 2008 throwing a figurative grenade at them www.saipantribune.com/news/local/w...
