A good place to start in understanding the inexorable rise of SUVs and their ever-larger sizes is Keith Bradsher’s superb 2092 book, “High and Mighty”. Also, The Economist magazine recently ran an article based on their own research into the connection btwn increasing vehicle mass and road deaths.
