It’s a column by Ross Douthat… of course he was expecting Vance to win. And of course he wrote a piece in advance to that effect. I have LOADS of issues with NYT, but there’s nothing actually concerning here.

Alright, folks. Here is a starter pack of science writers and communicators that I enjoy following. I hope it's useful! #SciCommgo.bsky.app/7Z8u31b

The blatant gutter racism continues on Trump's Truth Social feed with virtually zero attention from Beltway media.

I’m so sorry. It’s definitely a plausible cause (as I’m sure you know), and I wonder how many thousands of others are suffering from conditions they don’t know are linked to the attack.

He posted this a year ago and I will be indeed thinking of the many many lives he touched and made better while showing us how to make the most of our impermanent lives. And I will be holding my neurodiverse kids tighter today, as I reflect on my own impermanence.

“When I die, please don't say that l've crossed over into the spirit realm, gone to the Other Side, moved on to a better place, rejoined my ancestors, or any other of those comforting fables. Just selfishly or selflessly use my own impermanence to WAKE UP to your own.”

Below this is a black and white artistic representation of the cycle of life/earth as an incomplete circle with plants and animals on the outer and inner surfaces of the circle.

Two important points about the Electoral College's origins that its defenders often don't understand. Alexander Keyssar's "Why Do We Still Have the Electoral College?" gives a thorough history of its origins, evolution, & the many attempts to reform it: www.hup.harvard.edu/books/978067...

Josh Huder quote tweet: "Madison reflected on the mess of the original electoral college later in life and admitted it was because delegates were tired and wanted to go home (EC was considered toward the end of the convention) so they hurried through it."

Quoted tweet by Matt Glassman: "Argue all you want about the merits of the electoral college, but please stop talking about the Founders' infallible intent. The system *never* worked as intended, and parts of it were so obviously absurd in 1790s that we did a major overhaul just 15 years after it was written."

Steve was one of those people who, even though you knew he was mortal, felt like he was always be there, if only because the world so desperately needs people like him in the world. All of us who knew him will miss @stevesilberman.bsky.social terribly, but the whole world has lost someone precious.
