I was just gonna say that's the flip side. Either there's dawning horror or you have to deal with being told that you're wrong about how things work here because surely that's not true.
Have encountered that even w/ the older generation. Perhaps the most vexing is the confident "If you just did X-Y-Z, you'd definitely get your money/job/property back!" and the refusal to accept that no, that kind of justice does not exist for us.
It was the latter when I described corn & dairy subsidies to a non-US crowd. No, it couldn't possibly be that f***ed up.
And part of the problem is they can Google some laws that will make it seem like, in this example, your employer is supposed to make up the difference if you don't make minimum wage... ..and then you have to convince them that none of //those// laws are actually enforced!
I tried to explain to my (UK) dad how Legacy admissions work in America, and he just flat out refused to believe it was real.
