I learned to make my own because nobody nearby ever made them and I was curious, so I made my own. Being in the tea business, it should stand to reason I should try all the goodies that accompany it. They aren't TOO difficult to make so I can only credit the price hike to social media trends.
There is a tremendous satisfaction in homegrown fruits and veggies.

As well as the fact that traveling often makes one learn new recipes. I spent a month in Colombia and Peru, came home with knowledge of patacones, lomo saltado, and Peruvian "aji" type peppers.
