Yeah, assuming meters were in a location like that, tapping straight from them could make this even easier. I don't know enough to know which is less-intensive overall, but the main point I'll always be making is that electricity is amazing and incredibly flexible. Options abound!

Thinking about it more: my utility has a dedicated program to cheaply add a 2nd meter at a parking spot for an EVSE. They even let you put that meter on time of use rate while your main house stays on the normal plan. So many good options…
