Can i get context without digging through piles of legal speak, so I can pass it on to my kid who is studying game dev? Is this art assets, code, both, more, less? I know he's talked about using bits of existant code as a shortcut.

Art assets in this specific case. But also bear in mind that "existing code" =/= "generative AI". Almost all programming builds off code that was built by others- that's what StackOverflow and similar sites are for. GenAI uses patterns to figure out what it should say, often incorrectly.
