October 4th (BONUS): The Shining Another lengthy one at a nearly 2.5 hour runtime, The Shining is a horror film classic. Anyone who doesn't recognize Jack Nicholson's face peering through the ax-damaged door as a terrorized Shelley Duval watches in horror hasn't been near a TV or the internet ever.

The film was released in 1980 but is based on a Stephen King novel by the same name released in 1977. As someone who was reading Stephen King novels in elementary school, my appreciation for his flavor of horror runs deep. The Shining is a classic no one should miss out on, even 44 years later.
