I don’t think it would take too much at this stage to trigger a serious negative network effect where a some key the more key accounts leave, the more followers follow them, leading it into a semi death spiral. Probably won’t disappear but be even more diminished

Yeah another significant percentage is simply from ships sailing too fast to the next port, only to waste time waiting to be let in since there is no space. Optimizing for just in time arrival is another lay up

Short of them actually making a transition effort, is this not potentially a good thing? It removes any fig leaf they can point to in terms of accelerating the transition. If all they can do now is repeat ad infinitum "the world is going to need more oil", eventually it's going to collapse on them

so it will likely take decades to phase out FF ships, but much faster short term reductions in fuel emissions are possible by getting the efficiency and basics right, where big data + ML/AI can play a role. and this will still be needed with low carbon fuels, because of their lower energy density.
