To be clear, I'm not a fan of mass surveillance of citizens. We should be pushing back on this wave. It needs to be regulated. I try to remind people that tech people will do what they always do. They gather data, then they exploit that data to enrich themselves. That's their whole business.

The thing about calls for me to “you’re a marine biologist, stick to science, stay out of politics” is that one of the two politicians we’re choosing between wants to fire thousands of marine biologists while eliminating protections for endangered ocean animals. This seems very much in my lane.
