Lastly, it is rare as an academic to choose where you want to live. More than anything, this was a move to be closer to family. Being driving distance changes so much. Coupled with a great institution and colleagues, this was the right move for us at the right time.
am especially appreciative of Mehul Suthar who started recruiting me the second they announced the building of HSRBII. After 16 years as friends (thanks @amersocvirology.bsky.social ), he pushed hard for my move. While he may soon regret this, I look forward to messing with him onsite.

While it is incredibly hard to leave, I am excited about our move to @EmoryUniversity My lab will continue to work on CoVs using reverse genetics & infection models to explore virus and host factors that dictate disease outcomes.
From hurricane Harvey to COVID-19 to personal health challenges and the freeze, I have had great support as both a researcher and a person from my friends and colleagues here. I have also benefited from a lab team that has and continues to do incredible work on coronaviruses.
The UTMB M&I department have been a wonderful place to build my lab & career over the last 7 years. I have been fortunate to work with an incredible group of scientist at the cutting edge of infectious disease research.
