It's interesting that Megalopolis and Joker Folie A Deux are movies that kind of try to anticipate their own receptions in their stories, but with Megalopolis kind of delusionaly thinks it will win over the masses while Joker 2 pretty clearly knows that it will alienate them.
Joker Folie A Deux is... actually kind of dull. I'll give it points for not being formulaic but the musical hook doesn't really work: the numbers aren't very entertaining in their own right and they don't really reveal that much about the characters' psyches.
Happy Birthday Jimmy Carter! 100 years!
OK, let's try this again: A proper Starter Pack (NOT a list) of film critic-type people on Bluesky. Will add names as I find them and as you let me know who I missed. go.bsky.app/36mbBZk
Megalopolis is probably too "visionary" for its own good. Coppola clearly spent a lot of time envisioning this world and its visuals but not enough time coming up with a coherent story to tell in it or believable people to inhabit it. Bits are compelling though, as bad movies go you can do worse.
