That sounds bad but it may not be. I mean, look at Europe, the EU used an aspiration to social democracy as a political adhesion tool for South and Eastern Europe for decades. US youth feels some of that, too. Of course EU youth is now adopting the US far-right playbook, so... win some, lose some?

We just globally bred a generation of (mostly male) young people who are despondent and lashing out in sync with a bunch of older people getting increasingly radicalized by getting old in that context. It's gonna be long-term education and more economic equality or nothing.

Yeah, all I got for you is either "they kept losing elections" or "they won an election and got protested/revolted so hard they got kicked out". I don't think there's a silver bullet here, it's a generational problem, you need a whole new batch of non-asshole humans to come into play.

Ah, right. I guess it's hard to decouple that from regimes, though. I'm not sure we've been so granular on tracking individual issues for long enough, and history tends to ignore things that don't happen.

He did. And there was some judicial follow-up, as Musk recently found out the hard way. He did lose the election and power, though, like Trump. We'll see where it goes from there. That's the thing about "momentum" against authoritarianism, it's not a one-time thing, it's always ongoing.

Then again, so did Trump. And Bolsonaro and a few others.

I mean... that genuinely depends on how you define "turning back the tide". It's not like fascism didn't have lots of supporters in the US in the 30s. There are also examples of coming back from fascist and protofascist regimes semi-peacefully, but those did get into power first.

Bombadil tells them to go there, though. I mean, granted, I don't think he tells them to get out of their rooms for a pint and blow their cover, so I suppose the point stands, but still.

Honestly, it's extremely weird that everybody is getting to The Purge before they're getting to this. I don't know what that says about social media or society or whatever.

I'm not sure how I feel about everybody going "it's the Purge" instead of... you know, Kristallnacht, which is what jumps at me from the actual quote.
