Director Edelman “realized there wasn’t some big secret that [70+ peers] were hiding. Instead, what he found were the defining traumas of Prince’s childhood and his constant recapitulating of them. The story unfolds slowly, hauntingly, over the course of the film.” www.nytimes.com/2024/09/08/m...
A revealing new documentary could redefine our understanding of the pop icon. But you will probably never get to see it.
It’s so sad that we’ll likely never get to see this. Prince was a complex, flawed person and one of my favorite artists, I don’t need to see some false, sanitized version of the man.
Thank you so much for the link, truly appreciated. It would have been so frustrating not to have been able to read this.
“How should we think about artists whose moral failings are exposed? Edelman manages to present a deeply flawed person while still granting him his greatness — and his dignity.” YES. 🙌 THAT is the proverbial business. Or should be.
Thank you for sharing this!
What a read. I had no idea the film had come this far along. And the Ezra Edelman was involved. Thanks for the link.
