All politics are identity politics and I swear I will die on this hill.
I def had to scroll pretty far down that thread the first time I saw it to find the âeditor for Scientific Americanâ context. The first post only says âeditorâ as a general term. (I still think itâs a mixed thread tbh. Some of the advice was good! Some was eh. Some was plain olâ prescriptivism.)
And tbh I donât think Iâve ever encountered *anyone* less rational or logical than a man who specifically claims to always be rational and logical.
Fair, but the area had 4 fatal crashes in the 7 years prior to the cameras and none were particularly close to where they were placed, so idk if that was much of a factor. But we should find out more info soon, they have to submit data to the DOT to keep them. Iâm curious to see what it will show!
Oh, sure, Iâm not saying it is. And Iâm largely fine with speed cams. I just think itâs important to remember that any time money is involved, the potential for shenanigans is high, you know? Especially when weâre talking 6 million in revenue in 3ish years, itâs not pocket change, lol.
Vast majority of the tickets issued (at least for the first year they were up) were for 6-11mph over actually. Which, as I said, makes it kinda sus to me when that one tiny stretch had its speed limit lowered 5mph for no other apparent reason.
Well, for one of them, the speed limit is 55, drops to 50 for the span of the camera, then immediately goes back to 55. Which I also find sus. The town that installed them also has many downtown pedestrian areas where speed cams would 100% make sense, yet theyâre on the highway (where they make $).
I donât know that I would call it bias necessarily but we have two near-ish us that are literally on highways, nowhere near pedestrian traffic, which Iâve always found sus. When asked if they reduced accidents the local PD went ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ. Hard to see those 2 as anything but blatant cash grabs IMO.
A) I hate these fuckwits so fucking much and I wish to fling them into the sun. B) âŚis it really still about 90%? Jesus, thatâs depressing.
âRoughly 90 percent of women who marry adopt their husbandâs last name. Roughly 90 percent of married female voters have different name on their ID than on their birth certificate. 34 percent of women could be turned away from polls unless they have precisely the right documents.â FUCK THESE FUCKS.
Most women vote Democratic. And most still change their name when they marry. And thatâs where the GOP sees an Achillesâ heel.
Hahaha. This sorta feels like the political debate prep equivalent of getting a professional NBA player to coach you for your next pickup basketball game.
