You don’t have to like it but it’s a 35 year old series that has been consistently one of the most popular franchises with young men. A cultural critic should be aware of it

I don't really *dislike* it. It's moderately engaging as a light - hearted bildungsroman. I just wish it was less insubstantial, that Luffy and his pals suffered some negative consequences from their stupidity.
