Having previously made bad decisions does not in any way compel one to keep making them in the future. Philosophical consistency is worth fuck-all compared to the value of doing the right thing in the here and now.

Ultimately, the only conclusion that I can draw is that the world is full of terrible people, and that I’m glad that Rose is no longer among them.

Dan Serafini murdered his former father-in-law and tried to murder his former mother-in-law, shooting her twice and causing permanent injuries that led her to kill herself. Is that worse than Chad Curtis, who molested at least four of his underaged students as a high school coach?

The most universally _despised_ living athlete is probably serial sexual assaulter Deshaun Watson of the Cleveland Browns, but picking a “worst” is going to depend on all kinds of complicated pieces of moral calculus.

Part of what made Rose such an incredible piece of shit is that you could look into just about any aspect of his life and find new ways that he was a terrible person. There was no bottom to the rabbit hole, just more and more hole the further you went down. He was five-tool awful, a true natural.

The vast majority of the stories about Cobb being a racist or otherwise bad person were fabricated out of whole cloth by his biographer Al Stump. Stump also peddled counterfeit Cobb memorabilia, including a supposed Cobb diary that Stump forged. www.smithsonianmag.com/history/the-...

It was never a lifetime ban. The deal to which he voluntarily agreed made him “permanently ineligible,” and I’m perfectly happy to hold him to the letter of that deal. He can stay un-honored until the heat death of the universe, and it will still be better than he deserves.

He also admitted to illegally taking performance-enhancing drugs and was caught using a corked bat. Plus the statutory rape, and the times he beat his teenage son for refusing to act as an alibi so Pete could canoodle with his mistress. Just an all-around wonderful guy.

You could probably write a whole book about notable fires and the changes to laws and building codes that resulted from them, like the Collinwood school fire and its subsequent effects on exit placement and staircase and landing design.
