Put this and “Trump’s fascination with genes and genetics” in yesterday’s NYT together and I’d say the question “Is there anything so openly racist, extremist, or fascist that the mainstream media would resist applying the usual sanitizing / normalizing frameworks?” has been definitively answered.

I know we’ve moved on to other topics but I’m still stuck on this insane graphic. The thing is that at some level it’s not incorrect—this has indeed been the Trump/Vance “policy proposal”. But it’s like something out of the crassest possible satire on how deranged US politics has become.

The electoral effect of this is hard to measure. But the constant normalizing and sanitizing of Trump combined with the disproportionate critique of Harris in order to provide “balance” and the semblance of “neutrality” is evidently bad. (Screenshot of @joshtpm.bsky.social’s post on ex-Twitter)
