If Trump wins democracy will not suddenly end. He will take over one institution after another with his cronies. Lots of apologists will say it is constitutional and after a few years Americans will wake up in Nazi country and their kids shout hail Trump in schools.

Yes, and there is a large amount of evidence of the AFD trying to undermine the constitution. It requires politicians with courage to finally take the step and go to Karlsruhe, and at the same time stop the flow of money from pro Putin organisations to the AFD and go after their hate preachers.

It is time to go after the finances of the AFD, institute transparency laws for party funding and ban donations from persons or organisations close to Putin. In parallel laws against hate speech should be consequently applied when it comes to AFD politicians. There is a lot the state can do.

This is absolutely the wrong take. The election result is a catastrophe for German democracy and there is nothing to be cheerful about when the AFD is so strong.
