I have a related one about an apartment/a storage unit. In the dream, If it's the flat, *it has pets in it.* It's always been years since last opened. Somehow it's been paid and left intact for all this time. I have to clean it out before vacating it, *and* the rent is late. Layers of terror.

I think we all know this classic way. [looks around] Actually, it might just be us.

And they've been breeding and surviving by cannibalism. It's one of only a couple recurring nightmares I've had. *shudder*

Oh that explains the dreams I had after I got my snake that involve An Improbable Number of Snakes in her tank. No starving or cannibalism though, just "oh god I have to somehow find tanks for these 20 snakes that somehow appeared"
