Fr for me it's the whole idea that abusers/PPL w awful politics have some eau de evil/have always been ontologically evil to them that only the wise can perceive. Which is the flip side to "that's impossible they've always been good/kind" in response to any accusation.

Oh that’s a good articulation. Probably coming from a mix of wanting to feel they’re safe from such things and an impulse to feel smugly superior. Plus the “of course my side is incapable of having abusers.”
