Season 2 was great but Season 1 will always be special.

frodo arrives in valinor with galadriel, elrond and gandalf to find celebrimbor, adar, finrod and celebrían waiting on the beach to hug and kiss them. frodo and bilbo go to celebrimbor's with adar, while celebrían takes elrond and galadriel to her home, which is next to finrod's.

in my mind, celebrían was looked after by finrod, who understands exactly what she went through and feels deeply protective of her; and celeborn is looking after elladan and elrohir in elrond and celebrían's absence and then makes sure to get both twins to the last ship.

we talk about the positive masculinity in tolkien, but it goes beyond the male mcs showing emotion without judgement. you can trust the good guys to be honourable; they are decent to their core. 99% of the men in the universe are safe to trust. that is huge. that is beautiful.

Sometimes I think about how if the show was “gritty”, Galadriel would have been scorned, mocked and belittled for her mistake at the end of S1. The fact that she instead got understanding, boundaries, and overall love means the world to me.

I saw a comment that said they wished HBO had done TROP. As someone who enjoys many dark/gritty shows, it’s a bit exhausting of late the ‘type’ of gritty/dark that we get. It’s become code for ‘this show has a lot of rape’. Thank you McPayne for promising us a show free of it.

Why do HBO shows show so much sexual violence?

In a Q&A session Saturday, an HBO executive and producer defended the graphic portrayals of rape and assault on women in the network's shows.
Perhaps of upmost importance for “Lord of the Rings” fans is confirmation that McKay and Payne are not trying to turn “The Rings of Power” into a “Game of Thrones”-style epic. The show found itself in hot water among fans last year after a report surfaced that the production had hired intimacy coordinators and ensured in the casting process that actors be comfortable with appearing in nude scenes. “Rings” fans reacted by signing a petition urging the Amazon series not to include nudity and gratuitous sex like “Thrones” did. For the record, Jackson’s “Rings” film trilogy went without sex and nudity.

According to Vanity Fair, the short answer is “no” when it comes to “The Rings of Power” having “Thrones”-level violence and sex. As McKay told the publication, “[The goal was] to make a show for everyone, for kids who are 11, 12 and 13, even though sometimes they might have to pull the blanket up over their eyes if it’s a little too scary. We talked about the tone in Tolkien’s books….”
