I think the stats curriculum has focussed on algorithms that are easy to assess (e.g. unequal width histograms) over other more useful knowledge/skills (making inferences from data). This gap feels larger than in other areas of maths, especially as technology can now do these things easily …

... however, I do believe that technology can be part of the solution to this problem. Using tech to find charts and stats quickly allows students to focus on 'why' they are using them. This deeper conceptual understanding can also support students performing better on assessments.
