More common than now, but not common back in the day. A simultaneous two-sport pro athlete is a real achievement.

True. But I don't think the provincial government is a primary funder, at least for the larger systems. Greater Victoria Public Library got $18.5 million from municipality last year, just $640,000 from province. (More than $15 million spent on salaries, about $1 million on library materials.)
Libraries got extra $8 million one-time funding in 2022, then an extra $45 million earlier this year. news.gov.bc.ca/releases/202...
