There has been a surge in social media posts of trees that lost their tops or limbs, wondering whether the trees will survive. Many arborists recommend removal, but I urge patience. Trees are skilled at reconstructing crowns. This bur oak lost its top over 100 years ago, and now looks great.

A very old tree that lost the main trunk eons ago but other branches grew out and up and the tree lives on.
