The quote is about the KDP, of which Thälmann was the head. Thälmann was murdered in a concentration camp (Buchenwald?) in 1944.
Oh I meant in the actual essay. But yeah your skeet made me look up Thälmann which told me what happened to him. They put them in solitary confinement and then yes, they assassinated him at Buchenwald. They took the time to kill him in 1944. JFC.
