Thanks! The 'brain-ping' idea comes from www.nature.com/articles/nn.... , who used the impulse response to single flashes ('pings') to decode brain states. We think of RIFT as 'temporally extended pinging' - concatenating many impulse responses to track the *temporal evolution* of a brain state.
