Because that's how it's supposed to work. The alternative is a one-party government -- fascism, in a word. Look it up.
There’s a few more qualifiers before you get to fascism, and no one is suggesting a one-party government. What’s being pointed out is that the currently active fascists should not be invited into the halls of power.
