Generation 2 Pokemon is such a weird one In spite of Johto being my favorite region, I constantly misremember pokemon like slugma, wobbuffett, houndoom, misdreavous etc. as gen 3 'cause for some reason you never fucking see them in base game, and they use them more than in gen 3 games

A lot of others were hidden with like 1% encounter rates without swarms too. Wobbuffett is in ONE cave that's like entirely optional to go through. I LOVE G/S, but HG/SS helped by making some of the pkmn available earlier. It was a really weird choice to lock so many new Pokémon behind post-game.

I have, like, the fondest memories of Gen 2, but yeah, in hindsight there‘s so many strange decisions made with it.

Yeah, it's a bit of an infamous problem for Johto in general. And let's remember, a lot of these mons were just stuck in a bad / unevolved stage until Gen 4 and later.

It was so wild that Dunsparce was super rare and there was like 1 Sudowoodo Pineco and Scaraborn had rare spawn conditions, Houndour was just not around and there was straight up no Smeargle to be caught
