I've been fascinated recently about how what is considered "good" matters so much based on when folks are exposed to them. When major label records like Dookie and Out Come the Wolves came out every punk I knew despised them. Now those are (correctly) held up as classics.

Green Day and Rancid suffered in some corners of the community because they had abandoned Lookout! Records. By grabbing the golden ring and then finding wide acclaim, they had done the unforgivable in the eyes of fans who prized independence for artists. The quality of their work became irrelevant.
