Todayā€™s news is infuriating, but not really surprising, and it underscores stark inadequacy of the idea that we can fight climate change within capitalism, with slight, incremental tweaks to the status quo, rather than replacing it altogether. 3/3

Without accompanying laws to wind down the fossil fuel industry and war time level investments to build communities that can work without them, a carbon tax is so easy to scapegoat as an ineffective money grab, and right wing grifters here are really good at doing just that. 2/3
