I decided that making small comments about the Taylor Lorenz stuff wasn't fair, so I condensed my thoughts into a longer form blog post. It's free to read. www.patreon.com/posts/explai...

The media handling of Gamergate was so breathtakingly horrible that I cancelled my SPJ membership. Literally helping that sh*tbag Milo pretend no Liberal would come to his little Florida debate when tons offered.

That was really helpful and insightful. Thanks very much!
Appreciate this, though for a generational take I was around for Gamergate. I think "deplatforming" obscures that it was good to have this person challenged by the Washington Post in the context of Nex's death.
Thank you, this does clarify things. But I'm left trying to understand: how do we stop these people if it's not acceptable to put them in the news? Most people have no clue the Tik Tok monster even exists.
Thank you for this, and the context.
really liked this, i didn’t notice that generational split. i think it’s unethical for a reporter to not reach out for comment but she wasp probably not the best person for it
All I ask of Lorenz and the other “sunshine is the best disinfectant” folks is to look back and judge whether their sunshine actually disinfected. Maybe this interview finally worked. But whether Raichik gains or loses from this will be easy to see from follower counts. We can know the answer!
I don't understand this part: If he wasn't interviewed in the first place those comments wouldn't have been available to find. Like it's absolutely clear no-platforming works but like with Kanye it took making a lot of horrible statements in interviews for there to be the will to do it.
To be clear, I respect your work. However, I find this to be an odd correlation. I was too young for gamergate, though I am aware of how the right influenced it. That said, I am also critical of Taylor Lorenz's coverage as it does not center Nex, and they were there with two different goals.
