"And as he stares into the sky, there are twice as many starts as usual" Macrauchenia born with polycephaly, inspired by the poem "The Two-Headed Calf" by Laura Gilpin. #SciArt#paleoart#artbyjulio

A mother Macrauchenia looks down at its two-headed calf lying down in the vegetation, dimly illuminated by the night sky. A bright star can be seen above her head.

In case you're not familiar:

A poem that reads:

The Two-Headed Calf

Tomorrow when the farm boys find this freak of nature, they will wrap his body in newspaper and carry him to the museum.

But tonight he is alive and in the north field with his mother. It is a perfect summer evening: the moon rising over the orchard, the wind in the grass. And as he stares into the sky, there are twice as many stars as usual.

Available via everydayoriginal.com tomorrow. 🙏 Thanatotheristes is a late Cretaceous tyrannosaur whose name means 'Reaper of death.' I couldn't help this image of it in Grim Reaper guise popping into my head. Brown pencil on plain notebook paper, 125 × 190 mm, 2020.

Brown pencil drawing of a cloaked and hooded figure with the head of a tyrannosaur, facing left, standing amid billowing smoke. The blade of a scythe emerges from the cloak's folds. At the bottom of the image is a scroll with the words, 'Thanatotheristes: Le faucheur de la mort'.

I don't think I'm agile enough to hold & turn pages with only one hand... but I am becoming addicted to highlighting and annotating in paperback copies.

(I am -only just- smart enough to know that this probably depicts fancy pastry on a game pie)

One thing the publishing industry has helpfully done is make the e-books as or more expensive than the physical ones, so I don't have that to confuse the issue.

Good morning. I'm working over my book wishlist and torn over whether to continue to buy e-books or to buy paper ones. I trust digital media less & less, and like to physically mark up books as I read... but the storage. Argh, the storage.
