Admittedly skimmed this, but this discourse always seems to leave out the person I think is the *most* important in this picture: The young woman who wants to be an academic without sleeping with anyone and just lost her shot at fieldwork to the professor's girlfriend.

Learning, from the field, that my beloved undergraduate professor who took me with him to do fieldwork ... divorced his wife to marry a graduate student he took to the field with him 20 years earlier was a bit of a mindfuck.
