Something about scanlines and bloom really does become like this awesome sort of smoothing, antialiasing effect. I spent a lot of time trying to recreate it with Reshade filters and color correction and you can get pretty close. CRTs are just a cool, weird technology. Games really did look great.

The problem is, with the filters, they don't account for the great motion clarity of a CRT. Running them onto a 120hz OLED with BFI is a solid approximation, though, just not easy or very accessible.
