The NYTimes reports on our new findings: After the Voting Rights Act was gutted by SCOTUS’s 2013 decision Shelby County, the racial turnout gap grew almost twice as fast in the counties that would have been covered by the VRA if it were in full force.
The Black share of the electorate had been on the rise for decades, but in some counties, a Supreme Court decision in 2013 changed that, according to a new analysis.
