If you've been on the Internet for at least 20 years, like me, you've seen platforms die and people move on to the next one. Myspace, Orkut, ICQ, some anime forum... but I don't think I've ever seen one being killed by one asshole like Twitter. That's what makes it so weird and hard to process.
You usually just start using the platform less and less and when you realize it, you're not in there anymore and you're already used to the new place, which had enough time to grow by the time you finished your transition.
you usually moved on to other platforms because they were better (IRC -> MSN because of one central server and broader appeal, MSN -> Skype because of voice chat, Skype -> Discord because of video chat and IRC-like features) it's the first time I'm moving because one got really worse
