Went to a theatre to watch Akira in 4k. I could finally appreciate the background paintings in-depth. It's incredible how much detail those have. (pictured here: landscape from the opening scene)
wow - the art which one doesn't appreciate as a kid 😍 ... those backgrounds paintings were so exquisite
There's so much that's amazing about Akira. I'm still mesmerized by the soundtrack.
I love how they accounted for the curvature of the lens and camera movement by distorting the layout
oh that sounds nice. it is offensive how detailed they are. crazy
I wonder where all the original paintings live now.. they belong in a museum! Wish I could see some in person.
someone was just talking about that you can order like really nice high detail prints of some of those, and they showcased that particular painting. let me see if i can find it.
I would love to see it in a theatre!
I remember seeing a video clip somewhere of the process with someone painting background cels for this, and they were painting all the tiny windows on all the buildings with a tiny brush… in gouache… BY HAND… Just mind blowing stuff
Oh. My. God.
Where did you get this photo? I’d love to see these paintings in real life.
