Watching the new CGI Gundam show on netflix, their hard surface modelling is on point but the character faces feel off, somehow both less AND more detailed than the world around them and it's killing immersion, porcelain smooth skin but incredibly detailed eyes.

Mario 64 did a pretty decent job, one that some games never managed to replicate.
